Tonight learn more about the atomic bombings that hit Nagasaki and Hiroshima with a reading and a presentation of the documentary Atomic Mom, free at the Salt Lake City Downtown Library.---

Today is the 60th anniversary of the nuclear bombing of Nagasaki that killed, by some estimates, as many as 140,000 Japanese civilians and helped end World War II. It’s a chapter in world history often overlooked, but tonight you can attend a free reading of the account of Nagasaki survivor Katsuji Yoshida, who was 13 when the bomb struck.

Following the reading, there will be a presentation of Atomic Mom, a documentary by M.T. Sylvia, who covers the haunting effects of U.S. atomic testing done in the 1950s by her mother Pauline Sylvia, a former Navy biologist.

The event is free and open to the public. Check it out tonight, Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Salt Lake City Downtown Library, 210 E. 400 South.
