Lounge Act Weekend: Tunes! Ribs! Films! Oktoberfest!?!

The weekend is full of laughs, tunes and assorted buffoonery. Don't you think it's time you got into something silly?---

FRIDAY

One of the funniest, filthiest comics working today is doing four shows at the West Valley Wiseguys this weekend. You might know Jim Norton from one of his stints hosting the Adult Video News awards, or from Jerry Seinfeld's documentray, Comedian. He even popped up in a recent Louie episode.

Critical darlings Tapes n Tapes headline a show at The Urban Lounge, playing tunes from their excellent new release, Outside.  Poppy punks The Cute Lepers headline at Burt's Tiki Lounge, while local political rockers Uncle Scam (pictured) celebrate the release of a new CD at the Utah Center for the Arts. For a swell free show, KRCL's Hidden Hollow Concert Series offers Holy Water Buffalo and The Trappers at 7 p.m.

Neil Simon fans will want to note the traveling production of Barefoot in the Park that's stopping by Park City's Egyptian Theatre this weekend. It's one of his funniest works, for sure. It shows all weekend.

At Pioneer Park Friday night, you can catch a free screening of the excellent documentary Man on Wire, starting at dusk, drive-in-style.  And the Tower Theater is showing The Road Warrior as part of its 35mm series.

And finally, Friday is the Spy Hop street party, where you can check out some of the community's rising arts stars from 6 to 9 p.m.

Of course, the Salt Lake City Film Festival runs all weekend, so you'll want to be sure to check out the schedule and see some fine new work.

SATURDAY

Atmosphere bring their "Family Vacation" tour to The Complex, a show that includes Evidence, DJ Babu and others, along with the always-popular headliners. Babu will spin later at The Hotel, too.

The Maverik Center hosts one of the biggest Latin bands working today in Los Tigres del Norte, so if you like your outlaw tales with a little spice, this show's for you.  Melissa Etheridge brings her earnest folk-rock to Deer Valley Saturday night, while the MarchFourth Marching Band does a free show at 6 p.m. at The Canyons.

The Gallivan Center hosts "Rock n' Ribs," where you can sample a plate for $3 and admission is free, starting at 2 p.m.

SUNDAY

The long-delayed Adele show originally slated for May is finally happening, with the added bonus of Wanda Jackson opening the gig. It's sold-out at the Gallivan Center, but you can watch from the parking garage across the street. A better option might be going to Red Butte Garden and checking out Brandi Carlile, also at 7 p.m.

And believe it or not, it's already Oktoberfest at Snowbird. What the hell?
