Last night in St. George, it was a kickoff performance by Wayne Newton. The next eight days promise even more fascinating moments at DOCUTAH. ---

Following up last year's successful debut, the Southern Utah International Documentary Film Festival -- the only film festival in the world dedicated exclusively to non-fiction filmmaking -- heads into high gear with today's first full day of screenings in Year 2. Locations in Springdale, Kanab, St. George and Ivins will host screenings of 100 features and shorts on subjects both familiar and obscure, but always with the fascination that comes from real-life stories.

This year's highlights include films with a particularly Utah angle, including recent theatrical releases Tabloid and Boys of Bonneville. Other Sundance-pedigree features include Sing Your Song, the story of singer/activist Harry Belafonte, with a Sept. 15 screening scheduled to feature a Q&A from Belafonte's daughter, Gina. From politics to music to religion, the range of topics promises something that could intrigue any potential viewer.

Tickets include a variety of affordable options, including a $15 day pass that allows admission to all screenings all day at a single venue. DOCUTAH continues through Sept. 17; visit the festival Website for a full roster of films and screening times and additional visitor information.
