If, like me, you're overrun with late-season veggies from the garden, you might need to get the 411 on canning and preserving them. Sherri Brooks Vinton, author of Put 'em Up, is here to help. --- The Downtown Farmers Market and Edible Wasatch magazine welcome canning and food-preservation expert Sherri Brooks Vinton for three days of canning events this weekend, just in time to catch the last of the summer harvest.

The event schedule is at follows:

Sat., 10/8 (10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon): Downtown Farmers Market – “Pickling 101." Sherri will demonstrate a pickling recipe in three sessions, at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and noon. Participation is free.

Sun. 10/9 (11a.m.-2:30 p.m.): Utah State Fair Park -- "Canning with a Twist" class. Sherri will demonstrate three recipes that exemplify good canning techniques -- Italian Flavored Pickled Zucchini (cold pack), Heirloom Tomato Salsa (hot pack), Quick Raspberry Jam (pectin jam) -- and take canning questions from the audience. Tickets are $35 (all proceeds benefit Utahns Against Hunger), available at EdibleWasatch.com

Sun. 10/9 (7-9 p.m.): The Garage on Beck Street – “Jar Swap and Book Signing." Mingle with fellow canners and sip a custom cocktail from High West Distillery designed especially for the event. Bring a jar of your own to swap and receive a discount on dinner. This event is free and open to the public 21 and older.
