We need your help.

Newspapers and media companies nationwide are closing or suffering mass layoffs since the coronavirus impacted all of us starting in March. City Weekly's entire existence is directly tied to people getting together in groups--in clubs, restaurants, and at concerts and events--which are the industries most affected by new coronavirus regulations.

Our industry is not healthy. Yet, City Weekly has continued publishing thanks to the generosity of readers like you. Utah needs independent journalism more than ever, and we're asking for your continued support of our editorial voice. We are fighting for you and all the people and businesses hardest hit by this pandemic.

CARS 2 Tour Comes to SLC

For our sins, Salt Lake City will host-life size replicas of characters from Disney/Pixar's Cars 2 in advance of the DVD release. ---

As part of a coast-to-coast tour, State Farm is sponsoring the "Agents on a Mission" tour, which brings full-scale, radio-controlled replicas of Cars 2 characters Lightning McQueen, Mater and Finn McMissile to multiple cities. Promotional materials describe them as the "largest production radio-controlled replicas ever built," so there's that.

The fun takes place next Tuesday and Wednesday (Oct. 18-19), 12 - 6 p.m. at the EnergySolutions Arena Plaza in downtown Salt Lake City. In addition to the Cars cars, the occasion will also feature photo ops, games and giveaways and a video kiosk. The sequel's half a billion dollars (so far) in worldwide box office--and the marketing bonanza that was the original Cars--will be supplemented on Nov. 1 with the release of Cars 2 on DVD and Blu-ray.
