In the weekly Slowtrain newsletter that was released today, co-owner Anna Brozek wrote the news that she had been dreading to write.---

After five years of operating the indie record store, which helped revitalize the East Broadway shopping district, Anna and Chris Brozek are closing shop. The couple decided to sell the store to focus their attention on raising their soon-to-be-born baby girl. After a deal to sell the store fell through a month or so ago, the shop was on the open market, with the hopes it would sell before this week.

"Our D-Day is fast approaching and, while we've had a LOT of interest in buying the store, we have had no actual deals come together," Brozek writes. Although there will no longer be a Slowtrain Records on Broadway, Brozek said they have been talking with locally owned Graywhale Entertainment, who is "interested and eager to fill the void that Slowtrain will leave in the downtown community."

The store will be closed next week (through Nov. 7) as the Brozeks ready it for a massive liquidation sale. Beginning Nov. 8, everything, literally, will be sold.

The newsletter concludes with this gratuitous remark to their customers:

"Thank you all for the last five years; we can't say that enough. It's really been amazing for us -- we're proud of everything that Slowtrain is in this community and we'll be sad to see it go. But as bummed as we are, we're 1,000 times more excited and thrilled for the new chapter about to begin in our lives. We can't wait to meet our baby girl, we hope many of you will get to meet her, too. Don't be strangers ..."
