The Biased Biologist: Mapping Climate Change

The Union of Concerned Scientists has put together a Google Maps-based Climate Hot Map that isolates and elaborates on environmental impacts of climate change. --- Not only does it let you sort incidents, but each incident is nicely cited with scientific literature on its detail pages.

I'm impressed by so much easy-to-read incident-based information. I also appreciate that a little digging brings an abundance of climate-change information. However, I wish this and other climate change sites offered more detailed solutions or links to solutions beyond "reduce your energy consumption, use greener transportation."

And be aware that, as with many nonprofits, you may be immediately asked for a donation when you sign up for updates (although they may have asked me because I claimed I was a scientist. That will teach me).

UCS claims to be unbiased and only interested in spreading scientific information. However, skeptics may be skeptical due to UCS' funding sources and its position that global warming is human-caused. But when global-warming skeptics themselves are the ones identifying the human influence on global warming, it's a brave new world of finger-pointing.

And let's be honest: Any organization that gets Jerry Falwell in a tizzy can't be all bad.
