Owner Eric Durtschi swung by the City Weekly offices for a taste test with our regular coffee-swilling staff last week. Here’s what some of them had to say:
Rachel Scott: I really have to say that it hopped me up like I was on goofers!
Dan Nailen: It smelled pretty good in the bag, but tasted like dirt in my mouth.
Jordan Wallis: Most distinctively, the bitter of the pure cacao dominates the taste. The brew is also hinted with light flowery aroma and the smooth flavor and texture of chocolate. The owner's description of the drink was interesting, and promising, with healthy qualities.
Lexie Levitt: I thought it was pretty good. It definitely seemed like an acquired taste, but then so is coffee. I like the idea of a coffee substitute that brews like coffee and has a rich flavor like coffee without the caffeine. I would like to try it with cream and sugar to make it more palatable.
Manda Bull: Crio Bru has an interesting deep flavor that I think I would grow to love. Of all the varieties I sampled, the coconut and cinnamon was the best.
Kolbie Stonehocker: I wanted to like it, because I'm a chocolate lover and caffeine makes me really jittery, but it was too weird. Also pretty sure it made me sick.
