Nominate your favorite DJ for CWMA 2012 | Buzz Blog
We need your help.

Newspapers and media companies nationwide are closing or suffering mass layoffs since the coronavirus impacted all of us starting in March. City Weekly's entire existence is directly tied to people getting together in groups--in clubs, restaurants, and at concerts and events--which are the industries most affected by new coronavirus regulations.

Our industry is not healthy. Yet, City Weekly has continued publishing thanks to the generosity of readers like you. Utah needs independent journalism more than ever, and we're asking for your continued support of our editorial voice. We are fighting for you and all the people and businesses hardest hit by this pandemic.

You can help by making a one-time or recurring donation on PressBackers.com, which directs you to our Galena Fund 501(c)(3) non-profit, a resource dedicated to help fund local journalism. It is never too late. It is never too little. Thank you. DONATE

It’s that time of year when we are piecing together the expansive 2012 City Weekly Music Awards, and we’re giving our readers a chance to speak their piece on the local DJ scene.---

Ten local music showcases will take place during the first two weeks of February 2012. These will feature 25 bands of all genres, and (new this year) two DJ Spin-off events featuring 10 of Utah’s best DJs—rather than the one showcase with five DJs we had last year.

This is where you come in. We are crafting a list of the DJs, and we want your nominations. Just write them in the comments section below, and, while you’re at it, write a little diddy on why you think they deserve the cred (FYI: Past winners are not eligible to compete, but past contestants are welcome to). Once our readers, staff and local music gurus weigh in, by December 6, the list will be posted online in a survey, which you can vote on from December 7-28.

The top 10 vote-getters in the online survey will then compete in the two DJ Spin-off events. The top vote-getter from both nights will be crowned the King/Queen of the ones and twos, which will be announced in the February 16 issue.

The final list of 25 bands to participate in the 2012 City Weekly Music Awards is chosen by staff and a closed panel; nominations are not taken at large.

Thank you for your time. We hope to have your support at the 2012 CWMAs!

In the meantime, check out this recap video from last year's comp, which features the winner Flash & Flare.
