2012 CWMA bands announced | Buzz Blog
We need your help.

Newspapers and media companies nationwide are closing or suffering mass layoffs since the coronavirus impacted all of us starting in March. City Weekly's entire existence is directly tied to people getting together in groups--in clubs, restaurants, and at concerts and events--which are the industries most affected by new coronavirus regulations.

Our industry is not healthy. Yet, City Weekly has continued publishing thanks to the generosity of readers like you. Utah needs independent journalism more than ever, and we're asking for your continued support of our editorial voice. We are fighting for you and all the people and businesses hardest hit by this pandemic.

You can help by making a one-time or recurring donation on PressBackers.com, which directs you to our Galena Fund 501(c)(3) non-profit, a resource dedicated to help fund local journalism. It is never too late. It is never too little. Thank you. DONATE

2012 CWMA bands announced

Voting for the 2012 City Weekly Music Awards is now underway. Check out which bands have been nominated to play and then cast your vote.---

The CWMA band showcases kick off Friday Feb. 3 with two shows, and two shows Saturday Feb. 4, followed by four more the next weekend. The 3rd annual CWMA DJ Spin-off will take place over two evenings, Feb. 1 at W Lounge, and Feb. 9 at The Opium Lounge at The Hotel.

We will have a “How to CWMA” article hitting the streets next Thursday before the shows. There, I’ve described how the bands were chosen by a committee, along with some other pertinent information.

For now, the most important thing is to get the votes rolling in. Online voting began yesterday, and w
e allow one vote per IP address. You can cast your vote here.

Then, be on the lookout for band profiles on that same page, and more info in print in the CW Live Picks. Follow the action on Twitter at

Voting ends Thursday, Feb. 2. After that, you can vote for your favorite band in person at each showcase you attend.

Important note: We will not be hosting a final showcase this year to keep the festival nice and concise. The in-person votes weigh in heavier than the online votes, so don’t get drunk and give your number out on that little paper square.
