Some of the best things in life are free -- including Salt Lake Acting Company's regular opportunities to hear new theatrical works for the first time. ---

SLAC's New Play Sounding Series continues tonight with a free staged reading of How to Make a Rope Swing by local playwright Shawn Fisher. The work is described as "a drama that explores race through the web of generational encounters in a rural south New Jersey elementary school," including segregation and eventual integration. Adrianne Moore directs, with a cast including Marilyn Holt, Randall Eames, Michael Gardner and Darryl Stamp. Start time is 7 p.m. tonight, Monday, Feb. 27.

After the performance, attendees are invited to stick around for a post-play Q&A with the author, director and cast about the development of the work. Who knows, your insightful observations might find their way into fine-tuning How to Make a Rope Swing into the great play it was destined to become?
