Dear GYA, You may remember me as the accomplished director, photographer, artist, musician, novelist, award-show host, philosopher, student, teacher, lover and crappy actor ... keeper awayer. But I'm not gonna lie, I'm starting to run out of ideas for stuff to do. And dang it, if I don't have a new "thing" soon, then people will stop paying attention to me! Any ideas for a new project? - James Franco---
James, you need to relax. You're doing a great job at force feeding yourself to the news, and I know you'll come up with an annoying shtick soon enough. Here's some things happening today that may inspire you:
Multi-instrumentalist and guy with great hair, Ben Kweller will be performing at In The Venue/Club Sound tonight at 6:30 p.m. The Texas native will more than likely be performing tracks from his new album Go Fly a Kite. Tickets are going for $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Sleeper Agent and The Dig are also on the bill.
Utah's premier Irish dance performing group the Shelley Irish Dance Company will be jamming out tonight at the Covey Center for the Arts. Expect an ol' fashioned Irish throw down with fiddlers, pipers and, of course, some straight-up Irish rug cuttin.' The show starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $8.50 for adults and $5 for kids.
San Diego-based indie rockers Delta Spirit will be performing at Urban Lounge tonight at 9 p.m. Besides playing the Coachella music festival in 2011, they've had songs featured on shows like Sons of Anarchy, Friday Night Lights and My Life as Liz. Occasionally, these guys have been known to play on everything from trashcan lids to orchestral bass drums. Waters and Tijuana Panthers are also on the bill. Tickets are $15.
Other worthwhile events today:
- Got to love Pub Quiz Night at The Republican, beginning at 9:30 p.m.
- The Terrace Plaza Playhouse in Ogden presents Thoroughly Modern Millie tonight at 7:30 p.m.
- Central Gallery is showcasing Lisa Clement's Macro Environments all day today for free!
