Dear GYA, How am I supposed to sit back and enjoy the Olympics at a time like this? I can't stop thinking about the fact that Rob Pattinson's heart was broken by Kristen Stewart. I mean, NBC could have at least given us some closure by mentioning his loss in the opening ceremonies. Anything happening today to get my mind off this American tragedy? - Mary Samsonite, Tooele---
Mary, don't worry. I'm sure Rob will be feeling better once he casually hooks up with every woman on the planet. Here's what's going down today:
Acoustic singer, fiddler and songwriter Kate MacLeod will be performing at Weber County Main Library. Macleod's smooth, chilling style bridges the gap between traditional folk music and pushes it forward to something new and refreshing. Tonight's show starts at 7 p.m. . . . and it's free!
The classic musical Les Miserables will be going down at the Utah Shakespeare Festival tonight. Based on the novel of the same name, essentially, the story takes place during the French Revolution and follows ex-criminal Jean Valjean as he seeks redemption. If you never witnessed it, or if you've seen it a hundred times, this musical is always worth it.
The Latin-beat band Rumba Libre will be performing at The Utah Cultural Celebration Center. Formed in 2008 by Carlos "CoCo" Garcia and Carlitos Arroyo, Rumba Libre is composed of friends who have played their hearts out for over 15 years in Salt Lake City. This all-star super group plays with an exciting and unique style that blends salsa, jazz, soul, and Latin sounds." The show starts at 8 p.m. and the tickets are free!
Other worthwhile events happening tonight:
- Mo's Neighborhood Grill will be hosting a Poetry Slam tonight at 8 p.m.
- Every Monday, the Gallivan Center puts on the free Lunch Bunch Concert Series, beginning at noon.
- Also at the Gallivan Center there will be a free screening of the film Towering Inferno, starting at 9 p.m.
