Several years ago, City Weekly reported on a fight concerning Salt Lake City residents and the Rail Event Center over noise complaints. According to a resident who has been a key player in the fight, an end finally may be in sight.---

The struggle started after developer Scott Gollaher turned a warehouse into a high-end venue by the railroad tracks just off of 500 North in Salt Lake City. The building's structure and lack of soundproofing alarmed neighbors, who could not sleep at night for the rattling of their windows from the boom-boom-boom of the music. Residents of Bliss Court eventually sued the center.

Paralegal and Bliss Court resident Carol McCracken has been one of the spokespeople for the residents and recently sent out an e-mail announcing that a court date set for last Wednesday had been canceled because the Rail, which has new owners, and Bliss Court's lawyers had reached an agreement.

The Rail will be putting in new soundproofing, McCracken wrote in her e-mail, and would consult Bliss Court residents when testing the soundproofing to get their input.

"The road to peace is through compromise," McCracken wrote. "We hope that this stipulation will restore us to peace and quiet while allowing them to continue to operate an events center."

Former owner Gollaher, meanwhile, currently resides in the Weber County jail, facing numerous charges relating to child abuse and possession of child porn.
