PETA will have booth at Utah State Fair

Long a place to celebrate farming and the local food industry, the Utah State Fair has decided to admit a contrarian this year by agreeing to let PETA man a booth amid the blue-ribboned pigs and rabbits.---

The PETA booth will screen video narrated by Paul McCartney of criminal abuse of animals in the meat industry. According to a PETA press release, the choice of material is in response to a recent Utah law thwarting "the public's right to know exactly what goes on inside factory farms," otherwise known as the "ag gag" law.

The booth will parody the traditional 4-H booths that can be found selling cotton candy, corn dogs and deep-fried goodies. But PETA's four Hs will stand for "Hell for animals," "Heart-attack-inducing," "Hazard to the environment," and, somewhat long-windedly, "Hypocritical for teaching kids to care about only certain animals and to disregard others."

The Utah State Fair starts Sept. 6 this year, at the Fairpark, 155 N. 1000 West, in Salt Lake City.
