The weekend's watch-commander logs from the Salt Lake City Police Department have, for a change, a heartwarming tale to share with the public.---

It began on a bus, when someone the cops call "The Good Samaritan" struck up a conversation with a fellow passenger. The male bus rider seemed confused to "The Good Samaritan," whom we'll call Sam.  The man knew neither his name nor where he had come from. 

When the bus arrived in Salt Lake City, Sam took the man to the Salt Lake City Main Library to try to help him identify who he was. They found out the man had been reported as missing from California. He was subsequently reunited with relatives on the West Coast.

The logs also reveal a trend that has disturbed some officers whom City Weekly reporters have talked to of late—a dramatic and unexplained uptick in the number of robberies, banks and otherwise, that have been taking place in the city during the past six months.

On Saturday, two robberies took place. The first involved an armed, female, black adult robbing a store clerk at 576 E. 400 South at lunchtime, followed by, in late afternoon, a 15-year-old being robbed of a cell phone by an armed suspect. Sunday saw two more store robberies take place, the first on 2100 S. and 700 East by a white male, who took off on a mountain bike; the second on 1353 W. Indiana St. by an armed white male wearing a ski mask.
