Why would any chef take their typical Monday night off when Valrhona Chocolate comes to town? The answer: They wouldn't dare miss this French chocolatier’s Salt Lake City appearance. Three local chefs battle it out at Tony Caputo’s Market on Monday, April 8, for a deliciously sweet competition.---

Valrhona will debut its latest line of "Blond" chocolate named "Dulcey" -- described as “sweet, biscuity, salty and caramelized goodness” by Caputo’s -- on Monday for the Battle Blond competition. Three local pastry chefs will create confections out of the new bar: Amber Billingsley of Vinto, Alexa Norlin of The Rose Establishment and Courtney McDowell of Pago & Finca. The judging panel will consist of none other than three premier Utah chefs: Viet Pham of Forage, Ryan Lowder of Copper Onion and Takashi Gibo of Takashi.

To top off the evening, bites will be provided by Caputo’s resident butcher, Frody Volgger, with coffee coming from Charming Beard Coffee and high-octane brews courtesy of Uinta Brewing Company. Admission price covers all of the above.

Battle Blond will be held on Monday, April 8 at 7 p.m. at Tony Caputo's Market & Deli ($20 admission; $10 beverage pairing). Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 801-531-8669 or online here.
