Jamila Raqib, executive director of the Boston-based Albert Einstein Institution, will be giving several presentations in Salt Lake City on Friday and Saturday about nonviolent activism.---

Raqib works with Gene Sharp, "the foremost scholar on strategic nonviolent struggle" according to DemocracyInTheAmericas.org. She and Sharp co-wrote the 2009 book Self-liberation: A Guide to Strategic Planning for Action to End a Dictatorship or Other Oppression.

Raqib will speak on Nonviolent Struggle: Past Use and Future Potential at the University of Utah Hinckley Institute of Politics today, Friday, April 12, at 3 p.m.

Then tonight, between 7 and 10 p.m., there will be an open house at Blue Star Juice Bar and Coffee Cafe (2795 S. 2300 East), where Raqib will hold an informal discussion on her recent trip to her country of birth, Afghanistan.

Saturday, April 14, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Raqib will hold a creative-activism workshop and screen a documentary about the global influence of Sharp's work called How to Start a Revolution at Salt Haus (741 S. 400 West).
