Couple seeks help for impromptu SLC wedding

A couple based in Portland, Ore., are looking for advice on holding an intimate wedding in Salt Lake City following the tragic news that the fiance's dad has been diagnosed with cancer.---

The couple posted their request on Reddit.com on Wednesday.

The fiancee writes that her prospective father-in-law has only six to eight months to live, and, rather than burden him and his wife with the planning requirements for their accelerated nuptials, she is trying to organize it remotely.

Since the original wedding plans for Portland were on a larger scale than the more intimate event they have in mind for Salt Lake City, the couple have focused on the venue, the meal and a photographer as areas they are willing to spend money on.

In terms of the venue, the fiancee wondered if there's "a particular hotel that could serve as a one-stop location for a small ceremony, private dining and accommodations while we and our guests are in town." Going for hip and modern as opposed to traditional, so far she's found the Hotel Monaco. An alternative might be a restaurant that could be rented out for a small ceremony and dinner.

Along with that requirement, she's also interested in a reasonably priced photographer and guitarist/singer.

The key is that the event be "super low key and relaxed for the sake of my fiance's dad." The fiancee doesn't know Salt Lake City well. "There's gotta be some cute, hip, modern places, right?"

If you have any suggestions, let them know.
