Dear GYA, Why was I late to work today? Well, it's sort of hard to be on time when you leave your only pack of Mentos in your other jacket. What I mean is, this guy in a Benz blocked the entire crosswalk and I couldn't get by him. Surely, you don't expect me to shimmy through his backseat without the explanation of a freshly opened pack of Mentos?--- Am I right? Anything happening today after I pick up some 'Tos? - Zachary Brodary, South Salt Lake

Zachary, The great thing about always having a pack of Mentos handy, is you can get away with anything -- because it doesn't matter what comes, fresh goes better with life, and Mentos is fresh and full of life. Nothing gets to you, staying fresh staying cool, with Mentos, fresh and full of life. Never leave home without a pack. Here's what's up today:

Parks & Recreation star Aziz Ansari will be onstage at Abravanel Hall this evening. The doors open at 6. Tickets are $35.

Local young-adult author Sara Zarr will be reading from and signing her new book, The Lucy Variations tonight at The King's English Bookshop. The book party starts at 7.

Seattle-based experimental-hip-hop duo Shabazz Palaces will be at Urban Lounge tonight. Sub Pop labelmates THEEsatisfaction and Malitia Malimob are also on the bill. Doors open at 9. Tickets are $12 at the door.
