Wine Wednesday: Mulderbosch Rose

In this week's Salt Lake City Weekly "Drink" column, I wrote about my affinity for Rose wines and included a few recommendations to try. --- Unfortunately, I totally spaced out one of my favorites -- d'oh! -- and one of the most economical: Mulderbosch Rose 2012 ($11.06).

Mulderbosch is a South African winery located in the Stellenbosch Hills, a company committed to biodiversity and environmentally responsible vineyard-management practices.

The 2012 Mulderbosch Rose is made from 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, the grapes of which are managed solely with Rose production in mind. Thus, the grapes are picked early, resulting in racy acidity levels and bright fruit aromas and flavors.

This is a zesty Rose that would pair well with July 4th barbecues, picnics or other warm-weather outings. I drank it recently with a chilled-shellfish platter (with Old Bay seasoning) and it was killer. Be sure to put Mulderbosch on your summer Rose shopping list.
