Glad You Asked: The Melodic, Little Hurricane, Christian Slater

Dear GYA, A great way to beat the heat is to go take a nap at any local movie theater, preferably one that's showing White House Down. Calm yourself as this film gently lulls you to sleep with a mysterious plot and sleepy jokes from Jamie Fox and Channing Tatum. REM experts are claiming you'll wake up more refreshed than Battleship and After Earth combined. Anything going on today, now that I'm feeling great? - Mark Frantul, The Avenues

Mark, Thanks for this advice. It would be helpful if more critics like you rated summer blockbusters based on their napability. You're doing everyone a huge service. Here's what's up for today:

English folk band The Melodic will be at Kilby Court this evening. The Blank Tapes and Charles Ellsworth are also on the bill. Tickets are $7. The all-ages show starts at 7.

Dirty-blues band Little Hurricane will be at Urban Lounge. Tickets are $8. The show starts at 9 p.m.

Tonight at Brewvies, it's Film Buff Night. This evening's film of choice will be the 1991 classic Christen Slater comedy Pump Up The Volume. The show starts at 10. Admission is free!
