Dear GYA, On Monday, July 15, my life will once again have meaning. The greatest invention since sliced bread will return to grocery story shelves: Twinkies. This essential component to the food pyramid is exactly what my diabetic body has been lacking.--- So, in preparation for Monday, I have gone through extensive machete training. I am more than willing to fight to the death for a box of those fatty, yellow sponge cakes. And if I do achieve my Twinkie objective, I don’t plan to leave my house again for a couple of months (the shelf life is now 45 days!). So, what can I do this weekend for my last bout of social interaction while I wait for Monday to come with all its promises of delicious cream filling? –James McIntire, Bountiful

James, your love for Twinkies is inspiring -- borderline sociopathic, but inspiring, nonetheless. And there are plenty of activities going on this weekend to satisfy your need for human interaction before your sponge-cake-binging hermit days begin—just leave your machete at home.

Friday’s Events:

-It may be wise for you to seek some physical activity this weekend before your record-breaking Twinkie consumption. The Midvale Arts Council is hosting a night of dancing, starting at 7 p.m. The Just Dance! party will be held at the Midvale Outdoor Stage at 455 W. 7500 South. -If busting a move isn’t for you, maybe you’ll want to enjoy the beauty of nature with A Movie Under the Stars at the Utah Capitol (350 N. State ). The event is free and the movie for this week is The Amazing Spider-Man. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. And, who knows, this might be the last time you see the stars for a very long time. -There’s also a Rodrigo y Gabriela concert at Red Butte Garden. The musical duo plays lively Mexican rock melodies. The show begins with opener Alex Wilson at 7:30 p.m. For ticket information, click here.

-And before your feast of Twinkies, you could attend the Food & Wine Classic at Park City’s Canyons Resort, for some real fine dining. You can sample over 500 wines, with tasting events all day long. Find more ticket info here.

-Lastly, in efforts to show you what a real job looks like (this doesn’t include binging at home for months at a time), go see 9 to 5: The Musical at the Empress Theatre in Magna (9104 W. 2700 South). Tickets are $10 and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Click here to buy tickets. 

Saturday’s Events:

-It seems, as you own a machete, that you already have a liking for weaponry. So, why not try the Wild-West Shoot-Out in Ogden’s Municipal Gardens. -You might also enjoy the Utah Reggae Festival at Liberty Park. It includes more than 11 bands (Tribal Seeds, Dirty Heads and more) and the ticket price ranges from $25 to $30 on Smiths Tix.

-If dreadlocks aren’t your thing, how about the New Electric Sound? They are a band from Provo with an oldies-modern vibe. They’ll be playing at the Sandy Amphitheater (9400 S. 1300 East) at 8 p.m. You can find ticket info here.

-If you have a hankering to see what fresh food is all about (without the excessive preservatives in your yellow sponge cakes), then check out the Wasatch Front Farmers Market at Gardner Village in West Jordan. It runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and admission is free.

-And, rather than laughing at your ridiculous self, laugh at comedian Paul Rodriguez. He’ll be performing stand-up, with Mexican-American flair, at the Wise Guys Comedy Club in West Valley (2194 W. 3500 South). Rodriguez has two show times, one at 7:30 p.m. and the other at 9:30. Sunday’s Events:

-Since your sweet indulgence is a little bad, catch up on the series Breaking Bad at Brewvies. They will be playing episodes from the first half of the fifth/final season of the show. The big screen lights up at 8 p.m. and admission is free.

-And as your last weekend of social interaction wraps up, it seems bittersweet. Which makes Bittersweet Bluegrass, a five-woman bluegrass band, seem fitting. This free concert will be at Wines Park in Lehi at 7 p.m. Find more info here.
