Dear GYA, I just read that Costa Rica is freeing all the animals from its zoos. This is a great idea, and it makes me think that perhaps Hogle Zoo and Tracey Aviary should free all their animals, too. I'd love to drive to work and see a herd of elephants grazing on the University of Utah's campus, or maybe a flock of eagles picking off motorcyclists on State Street. Anything happening today better than freeing all the zoo animals? - Mark Shegula, Lehi---

Mark, I couldn't agree more. Utah could benefit from more invasive species. Plus, if we get tired of all the new animals, the cold winter snow should take care of it. Here's what's up today:

The Woodshed will be hosting the Back To The Freestyle rap battle tonight.  The competition starts at 9. Admission is free.

At the Shred Shed, indie-punk band Brave Bird will be onstage. Artifax Pereo are is also on the bill. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $7.

Symphonic pop-rock band The Polyphonic Spree will be at The State Room this evening. Harper Simon and The O's will warm things up. The show starts at 8. Tickets are $20.
