Utah Comes Out on Top in Charitable Donations

According to CNNMoney, Utah leads the nation in the percentage of income residents donate.---

You can check out how well the Beehive State does against the rest of the country here.

Utahns donate a whopping 10.6 percent of their income. In a state where 50 percent -- give or take -- are members of a faith that renders a tithing of at least 10 percent of annual income, that figure isn't surprising.

Second is Mississippi with 7.2 percent, and Alabama is third with 7.1 percent.

Interestingly, along with the dominant presence of a faith that encourages donating a portion of one's discretionary income -- whether the LDS faith is Christian I leave to others to debate -- Mississippi and Utah also have in common some of the lowest spending on education in the country.
