Dear GYA, Last night we filed our brief defending the state of Utah's ban of gay marriage, and we've decided to focus our entire argument on one simple truth: that nothing is more important than the children. Unless, of course, the kid is gay or transgender or their parent's are on minimum wages, or they're in a single-parent household, or they go to public schools, or they need affordable health coverage. Yep, this argument is solid. Anything happening today "for the kids?" - Gene C. Schaerr , Downtown SLC---

Gene, you can twist just about any argument to focus on the well being of "the children." It's the oldest trick in the book. Good luck with that. Here's what's going down today: 

For a full dose of funk, head over to Urban Lounge for Nth Power. The Devil's Club is also on the bill. The doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10.

Rappers Mr. P Chill and J.Smo of BUNKS will be doing an all-ages show at Uprok tonight at 6 p.m. DJ Upperkuts, Heath Cliff, Envy, Street Jesus and Fukwitme Committee are also performing. Tickets are only $2. 

Southern rock band North Mississippi All-Stars will be on stage at The State Room tonight and tomorrow. Both shows start at 8 p.m. and tickets are $35. Discounted bundled tix are also available.
