The House GOP has recently said it would rather spend $35 million in state money to offer coverage to a fraction of uninsured Utahns, compared to the 60,000 to 123,000 that could be covered if Utah accepted federal money to expand Medicaid in the state.---

Low-income advocates are rallying at the capitol Thursday to call on the Governor and other leaders to push for an expansion that will help the most vulnerable in the state and save taxpayers the costs of continuing to subsidize emergency care for those without insurance who lack the insurance to get proper preventative care.

The rally Thursday will also coincide with the Rally for Recovery, an event raising awareness of the need for more treatment options for folks suffering from substance abuse disorders and mental illness.
