Hello to all you vinyl-collecting, disc-flipping, cassette-rewinding, shirt-printing, band-loving, catalog-scanning, they-were-much-cooler-when-only-seven-people-knew-them enthusiasts! --- For those of you who haven't caught on and aren't in the SLC Marathon today, Record Store Day is today! If you're reading this and you haven't gone yet, finish reading the blog first, then go hit one of the local shops who more than likely have a ton of albums on sale and will have live music playing throughout the day. Of course Graywhale and Randy's Records are the main two in SLC, but don't forego about The Heavy Metal Shop, Diabolical Records, ReSpin Records and Raunch! In lieu of a 337 update, here's some random artwork from downtown SLC.
First up for events, The Garage will play host to the 4th annual Bunny Hop, presented by Mr. Jesse Walker. A full day of DJs spinning out back while you drink, along with an all-day egg hunt, a raffle and some other surprises. All of it benefiting Volunteers Of America. It's a pretty cool way to spend your Easter.
Next up on Tuesday over at The Leonardo is the next presentation in the Sustainable Startups Series called Fixing Our Food. A fine panel of local experts will be chatting about how to grow and sustain locally produced food, as well as how to start and run a successful business under that plan. This is a must for any local business dealing with food on a daily basis, get tickets while you can!
On Thursday, Spy Hop will be holding their annual fundraising event, this year called Write The Future. Like many of their events, this will give you a chance to peer into the content coming from he kids who take part in Spy Hop and see the results that your donations provide to their program. This year the event will be held at Infinity from 6-9 p.m., tickets are on sale now.
Moving to next Sunday, the GeekShow Podcast will once again take over Brewvies for their monthly movie night. This month they take on The Dolph: Dolph Lundgren. They'll be featuring two of his most prominent roles that have nothing to do with the Rocky series, Masters Of The Universe and the 80's version of The Punisher. As always, these films are free, but the food and drinks are not. Tip your waitstaff handsomely.
And then finally to wrap up the week, mark your calendars for as May Day SLC 2014 will take over Liberty Park on May 1. There's not a lot of details, just an anarchist party in the park for whatever reason you feel like, and the day will have a bunch of activities planned. Go check it out.
As for the blog, I'm not entirely sure what's going to happen over the next couple weeks. Just be ready for a lot of theatre stuff and some additional items. Come find me at FanX wandering the floors today. As always, we'll see what happens.
