The 2012 vintage of Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon marks the 40th Anniversary of Caymus Vineyards, the cornerstone of the Wagner Family Portfolio of Wines, --- which also includes Belle Glos, Meiomi, Conundrum and Mer Soleil.
Founded by Charlie and Lorna Wagner, along with their renowned winemaker son Chuck, the Wagners produced their first Caymus vintage in 1972: a mere 240 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon. Today's production of Caymus Cabernet is approximately 65,000 cases.
40 years after their first vintage, the Wagner Family of Wine is releasing their 2012 40th Anniversary Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon with some public wine tasting events in Salt Lake City. Attendees will get the first peek of the Caymus 40th Anniversary bottling, along with a new Caymus Merlot project called "Emmolo" and the new vintage of Belle Glos "Clark & Telephone" Vineyard Santa Barbara Pinot Noir 2013. These tastings will be in advance of any wide release to the stores and general public. Mike Gioia of Caymus Vineyards will be on hand to discuss the new releases.
The 2012 Caymus vintage is excellent, and winemaker Chuck Wagner himself is calling it the best wine he's ever made. That's saying a lot, given that Caymus is the only winery to ever win two "Wine of the Year" awards from Wine Spectator.
