Dear GYA, Like many people, I saw Dawn of The Planet of The Apes last weekend and was completely weirded out by those monkeys riding around on horses. Sure, I'm willing to suspend disbelief when it comes to talking apes, but monkey's riding on horseback? Come on, that's where I draw the line. Anything happening today better than a monkey on a damn horse? - Kirk Frukler, The Avenues

Kirk, I love a good man-on-chimp battle as much as the next guy, that's what going to the movies is all about. But I have to agree with you, there's no reason to bring monkeys with equestrian skills into the mix. Here's what's going on today:

Portland-based metal band UZALA will be at Bar Deluxe tonight. Dead to a Dying World, Cicadas and Moon of Delirium are also performing. Doors are at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8.

Brooklyn rock band The Hold Steady will be at Urban Lounge this evening. Cheap Girls is also on the bill. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $22.

Post-hardcore band The Silver Snakes will be at Kilby Court. Dustbloom and Sunchaser will warm it up. The show starts at 7 p.m. tickets are $10.
