Ugh...Wednesdays! Not quite Reckless Friday, not quite Casual Encounter Tuesday, am I right?
Luckily for you, Uber has teamed up with Park City rescue group Nuzzles & Co. to deliver adoptable puppies to workspaces across the Wasatch Front on-demand, in an effort to find forever homes and cure your midweek doldrums in one fell swoop.
UberPUPPIES came as a result of last October’s UberKITTENS, another Kanye-approved initiative.
“It was a huge hit, and we heard it all day long from people, ‘You gotta do puppies,’” Nuzzles’ board president Kathleen Toth, tells City Weekly. “Here were grown adults—grown-ups in professional suits with careers—sitting on a circle on the floor, criss-cross applesauce, waiting for their kitten to be delivered,” she recalls. “It was just deliriously joyful.”
The rescue group and sanctuary is very active in the Four Corners region, which Toth estimates has 160,000 homeless, unspayed and unneutered dogs.
“We work with local folks down there on the Navajo Reservation and we rescue homeless and abandoned puppies,” she says, “and we bring them back to our ranch where we vaccinate them, treat them for whatever medical conditions they might have, bathe them, fix them up, and they just fly out of the door.”
Those puppies in particular, mostly shepherds and cattle dog mixes, Toth says, make optimal pets given their profiles fit well with active Utahns’ lifestyles and they only grow to be between 30-40 pounds.
How it’ll work:
* Open the app between 11 am and 3 pm on Wednesday, March 23.
* Request the “Puppies” option and one of 10 drivers will be dispatched (note the pups can only be delivered to workspaces).
* Pony up $30 for 15 minutes of playtime, which will be donated in its entirety to Nuzzles & Co.
In the past, the rideshare company has delivered ice cream during a sweltering July day across 144 cities, dispatched Texas BBQ during South by Southwest and offered nuptials on the go in celebration of marriage equality.
“When requesting puppies to your office, please make sure your boss or building is pro-puppy and that no one in the area is allergic,” the fine print for UberPUPPIES reads. “Make sure to have an enclosed space ready to maximize the time you have with the puppies.”
As far as going at it for a third round and teaming with the app to deliver more Utah-centric creatures, say the Utah mountain kingsnake or Western spotted skunk, Toth’s answer is swift.
