City Weekly was honored in three categories in the 2015 Top of the Rockies contest, whose winners were announced at an April 21 ceremony at the Denver Press Club. Top of the Rockies is a competition for Region 9 of the Society of Professional Journalists, and includes journalists from Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and New Mexico. City Weekly competed with publications whose circulations ranged between 30,000 and 75,000.

Senior staff writer Stephen Dark took first place in Legal Enterprise Reporting for his 2015 "Hurt Lockup" cover story. Commenting on the story, the judge said it was a "thorough investigation on a timely topic with multiple interview sources and great use of data. Fantastic read."

Staff writer Colby Frazier took second place in Business Enterprise Reporting for his "Bank on It" cover story. The judge noted: "Well reported piece that shines lines on something few people knew about—Utah is filled with industrial banks."

A&E editor Scott Renshaw came in third place for A&E criticism for his reviews that included Selma and The End of the Tour. The judge noted that Renshaw's "Persuasive writing about each film that provided insightful context in a stylish, elegant voice. Each piece was fun and interesting—exactly what one wants from a movie review(s)."

City Weekly's managing editor Enrique Limón was recognized for his work at the Santa Fe Reporter prior to arriving in Salt Lake City, including two first-place awards for A&E Criticism and A&E Single Story, respectively. He also earned a second place for headline writing.
