• Your Halloween weekend activities can kick off with activities celebrating the Mexican Day of the Dead tradition.  On Saturday, Oct. 29, 12 p.m. - 6 p.m., the Utah Cultural Celebration Cen ter (1355 W. 3100 South) hosts a Day of the Dead Celebration, featuring family-friendly activities, live music, food and traditional Mexican folk arts, with an indigenous pre-European altar as the centerpiece in addition to community altars throughout the rest of the gallery space. Tickets are $5, kids 12 and under free.

Utah Symphony gets in its own Halloween spirit this week with a pair of holiday-themed performances. Tonight (Oct.  25) brings the "Halloween Spooktacular on the Seven Seas," including the annual costume contest with prizes from local organizations like Living Planet Aquarium, Clark Planetarium and Salt Lake Comic Con. On Oct. 28-29, a program of music from superhero movies—including The Avengers, The Dark Knight, Supergirl and Thor—features guest conductor John Morris Russell.

• Looking to share a scary Halloween movie with an audience? Brewvies turns over its Monday evening Film Buff series on Halloween night to the original 1974 The Exorcist, with screening beginning at 10 p.m.

• Salt Lake Acting Company is soliciting feedback from patrons who have attended family-friendly productions—which in recent years have included offerings like A Year With Frog and Toad, Art Dog and Climbing With Tigers—about their experience, and the experience of the young viewers they brought, and their thoughts about the availability of such offerings.  Send comments to olivia@saltlakeactingcompany.org.
