24 Hours

Through Sept. 14

The pressure’s on, and the expected yield is high. Given 24 hours to complete 24 finished works, the artists in 24 Hours participated in both an exhibition and a marathon, as described by curator and participant Chad Crane, pushing themselves to their limit. Kayo Gallery’s August show showcases the results, by artists Joey Behrens, Annie Boyer, Lewis Crawford, Stephanie Dykes, Zane Lancaster, Steven Stradley, Justin Wheatley and Crane himself.

Interestingly—and coincidently, as I learned— every single artist did square works. And not everyone achieved 24 complete pieces, which worked out well balance-wise. Highlights are Stephanie Dykes Wizard of Oz mash-ups, Crane’s illustrative, layered mini-paintings, and Lancaster’s once-again-fantastic little waxy works. All of which are amazingly resolved and polished.
