A Big 'So What?'

Thanks for sharing five questions with Saundra Stokes [Five Spot, Feb. 24, City Weekly]. May her words and actions help keep understanding and respect ongoing goals as we walk down a path of true civil rights with equal opportunities for all.

Even Utah’s small segment of black residents count. Every month, their blackness is viewed like national Black History Month—as a big “so what?” That includes many with mindsets like the Utah Senate Republicans who wanted to honor John Browning on the same holiday as Martin Luther King Jr. as well as legislators who tried to show they know how to debate affirmative action. But, do they truly care about blacks, and other nonwhites? It’s affirmative: They don’t!
