Aesop Rock, ChaseOne2
Aesop Rock is always a good show, and on his next visit, he will be accompanied by songstress Kimya Dawson, making it even better. Another highlight of the event will be the DJ set by local DJ and former City Weekly DJ Spinoff winner ChaseOne2. “I’ve been working on a really eclectic set for this night. Hope you all can make it,” ChaseOne2 says of the show. Check him out on the wheels of steel Aug. 24 at The Urban Lounge (241 S. 500 East).
Piper Pays Back: Piper Down
Our favorite Irish Olde World Pub, Piper Down (1492 S. State), is doing a good turn with its upcoming charity event. It will benefit the ALS Association (Lou Gehrig’s disease) with a silent auction and raffle on Friday, with entertainment courtesy of the Daniel Day Trio. By the by, Piper Down’s next “Kilt Night” is scheduled for Sept. 17, in honor of the halfway-to-St. Patty’s Day mark.
Welcome to the Disco: Prissco
Prissco is a local entertainment promoter with events around the city. Their upcoming 21-plus event in The Vibe room of The Complex (536 W. 100 South) is an entry in the annals of old-school fun times with a ’90s Throwback Dance Party, recalling the days of yore when “Adidas tracksuits, Cross Colours and parachute pants” ruled the day. Hip-hop, R&B and other genres will get mixed up to get you down on Friday, Aug. 26. Doors at 9 p.m.
Jackpot: The Tavernacle
As we mentioned at the start of the summer, Powerball Karaoke is on the rise, with local venues offering thousands of dollars in cash prizes. The Tavernacle (201 E. 300 South) has its pot up to as high as $900 of late, just waiting for a lucky singer to cash in. Get there early and sing, and have a shot at winning just for getting on deck and crooning.
