American Indoor Football Association

Having football from August through February just isn’t enough. What are you supposed to do with the other five boring months? The Utah Blaze of the Arena Football League had helped make spring and summer more tolerable, but the AFL decided to take 2009 off. However, local gridiron fanatics can still get their fix with the Ogden Knights and Utah Valley Thunder of the 14-team American Indoor Football Association, which fields professional arena teams from Baltimore to New Mexico.

Utah Valley’s squad features five former BYU players and is battling for the top spot in the league’s Western division. Ogden, with three former Utes and a number of former Weber Staters on the roster, gave the Thunder all they could handle when the two teams met in May at the McKay Events Center in Orem, with Utah Valley taking a 70-69 overtime win. In the meantime, hang in there, football-aholics—the Hall of Fame Game is just weeks away.
