In a year with a lot of artists and arts organizations celebrating milestones, one of the most significant local arts program celebrates 15 years of pairing up some of the most accomplished and talented local artists with emerging artists. Lenka Konopasek, Bonnie Susec, Kim Martinez, Lee Deffebach, Sandra Brunvand, Stefanie Dykes, Bonnie Posselli and John Erickson are some of the internationally noted artists who, in the past, have donated their time to mentor and help new local artists learn their craft.
Each team has specific goals to accomplish through the partnership, and this year’s exhibition features some intriguing matches: Iranian artist Fariba Navid (pictured) working with landscape painter Connie Borup; Iraqi artist Abbas Mathlum learning from Poor Yorick founder Brad Slaugh; and husband-and-wife Andrew and Chaulle Italasano learning origami from master origami artist S. Matthew Jones, who recently created a paper swan larger than a person at Visual Art Institute.
