As You Like It

April 16–May 23

Spring has sprung, and with it a yen for all things pastoral. It’s a perfect time to visit the fanciful Forest of Arden—or at least Orem, which clearly is the next best thing.

This week, Orem’s Hale Center Theater debuts production of William Shakespeare’s As You Like It, a typically Shakespearean comic roundelay involving cross-dressing, unrequited love, requited love, a wisdom-speaking fool, mistaken identities and at least one instantly recognizable quote (“All the world’s a stage,” anyone?). Watch the banished courtier Rosalind as she takes on the identity of the gentleman Ganymede, and counsels poor smitten Orlando about how to deal with his love for … Rosalind. And weep for the poor shepherd girl Phoebe’s crush on Ganymede—assuming you’re not too busy laughing.
