We need your help.

Newspapers and media companies nationwide are closing or suffering mass layoffs since the coronavirus impacted all of us starting in March. City Weekly's entire existence is directly tied to people getting together in groups--in clubs, restaurants, and at concerts and events--which are the industries most affected by new coronavirus regulations.

Our industry is not healthy. Yet, City Weekly has continued publishing thanks to the generosity of readers like you. Utah needs independent journalism more than ever, and we're asking for your continued support of our editorial voice. We are fighting for you and all the people and businesses hardest hit by this pandemic.

You can help by making a one-time or recurring donation on, which directs you to our Galena Fund 501(c)(3) non-profit, a resource dedicated to help fund local journalism. It is never too late. It is never too little. Thank you. DONATE

Attention Beer Lovers!!!

Epic Elder Brett Vertical Tasting at Avenues Proper

Utah beer lovers are going to love the beer tasting dinner that the folks at Avenues Proper have cooked up.

On Wednesday, February 25th, Avenues Proper will host a vertical tasting of Epic Brewing Elder Brett Saison-Brett Golden Ale, part of Epic's Exponential series. The brew is a collaboration ale with Crooked Stave Artisan Brewing of Fort Collins, Colorado. Chad Yakobson, Brewmaster/Owner of Crooked Stave, is well known for his skill and knowledge in the brewing of sour and Brettanomyces driven beers. Kevin Crompton, Epic's Brewmaster, and Chad spent several weeks working on the recipe and selecting the proper Brett strains and barrels for the beer to morph from a golden Saison into a Saison-Brett Golden Ale. The beer was brewed at Epic by the two brewers.

The dinner will feature three courses paired with three different Elder Brett releases. The pairings are as follows:

Warm Brussels sprout salad, wilted spinach, saffron-poached apple, sweet potato chips, cured egg yolk, and Gose-washed cheese + Elder Brett Release #2

Smoked and broiled mussels with turmeric aioli, trout roe, and zucchini pickles + Elder Brett Release #3

Goat cheese tart with a hazelnut crust and pickled fennel + Elder Brett Release #5

Seating is extremely limited, with only 20 seats available.

The cost for the dinner and beer pairings is $55 per person. Avenues Proper will require a credit card in order to make a reservation, and 48 hours notice for a cancellation is necessary to avoid any charges. The dinner begins at 6:00 PM. For reservations, call 385-277-8628.
