Ballet West Food Drive

Also: Annex Brews, Holiday Cooking Classes

Ballet West Food Drive
According to the company’s artistic director Adam Sklute, Ballet West is teaming up with the Utah Food Bank for an important holiday food drive taking place from Dec. 12 to 26. Ballet West dancers will be on hand in the lobby of the newly renovated Capitol Theatre (50 W. 200 South) prior to all productions and during intermissions to accept nonperishable food donations for the Utah Food Bank. Nutcracker matinee  attendees are invited to join Ballet West onstage after the matinees to meet the Nutcracker Prince and Clara and her friends, have some refreshments, and take home a special Nutcracker keepsake ornament, all hosted by the Sugarplum Fairy. Tickets to the onstage party are $7.50 and photos with the dancers are $2.50 each. Visit for more info.

Annex Brews
I recently reviewed The Annex by Epic Brewing (1048 E. 2100 South, 801-742-5490, for City Weekly. At that time, they were relying on beers from the Epic Brewery mothership. Now, The Annex has installed a seven-barrel, 217-gallon brewing system and is making craft brews in-house. “The Annex brew house provides a unique opportunity to experiment with very small batches and explore the variety within a beer style,” says brewmaster Kevin Crompton. Initially, the beers brewed at The Annex will only be available at that location, including a classic Oatmeal Stout and an American Golden Ale. Look for the new brews to be available on draft for the new year, according to the beer bosses at Epic.
