I went to City Weekly’s Utah Beer Festival at the Gallivan Center with my wife and 2-1/2-year-old boy in hopes of seeing some of my brewer friends who haven’t met my family yet. When I bought my wife’s ticket at the event, nobody said anything about my son, whom I was holding at the time, but at the gate, I was informed that children were not allowed. I know in the past, children have been allowed. [Editor’s note: This is incorrect. Children have not been admitted to previous Utah Beer Festivals.]
I saw no mention on any advertising that it was a 21-and-over event, and that information is not on the main page for the festival where I checked to find the hours. I think in the future, I will avoid the festival and take the time to go visit my friends at their breweries. Had I known there were no children allowed, I would have done something different Sunday afternoon and spent the money I wasted on some good microbrews from the store.
