VCW: Veterans of College Wars
Beer Pong, break-dancing, and the largest accumulation of 21- to 23-year-olds in any Salt Lake City bar on Tuesday nights—all great reasons to visit VFW Post 3586 (2920 S. Highland Drive). Though I never quite got how kids could get into a vet bar and turn the basement into a frat party, it exists, nonetheless. Hipster/snowboarding beanies galore and plenty of super-cheap beer reign supreme in the basement. Or meander upstairs for Street Team’s regular Tuesday-night hip-hop DJ sets, replete with break-dancing crew A.O.D. (Angels of Death).

Clean The Air Party: W Lounge
It’s nice to see clubs giving something other than hangovers and STDs to their patrons. W Lounge (358 S. West Temple) is “going green,” as the cliché goes, with its April 23 Clear the Air event, and giving back for Earth Day. Riding your bike and showing off your local Bicycle Benefits (BicycleBenefits.org) helmet sticker will earn you $2 off the cover any night, but there will be no cover from 6-10 p.m. for W’s April 23 party. Enjoy art displays by Jeremy Wilkinson and prizes from eBay and local businesses that support a healthy environment.

Sandbar’s B-day: One Year Old and Counting
It’s hard to believe that a Salt Lake City club institution like The Sandbar is only a year old. This venue consistently pumps out the jams, provides great events on Pierpont Avenue (at 122 West) and deserves to have its many fans sing “Happy Birthday” on April 23. DJ Eddie One from L.A. (KXOL) is bringing his West Coast flair to the SLC with opening sets from PAC artists. This is one of those rare occasions when reserving a spot may be the only way to get into an event.
