Belly Dance for the Birds

Saturday April 30 @ Post Theatre

As Salt Lake City’s only nonprofit large-bird rescue, the Wasatch Avian Education Society focuses its attention and limited resources on saving orphaned parrots by providing training and education throughout the broader pet-bird community. They hope that by spreading knowledge about proper care, fewer tropical birds will be left to fend for themselves out in the cold.

In its second incarnation, this “bellies for the birds” charity event is mostly geared toward deepening the rather shallow coffers of WAES with a small auction, mini dance workshops taught by local belly-dance favorites Fvorboda and Amina and a performance featuring the great Shahravar. Former WAES president and board member Susan Kelley is a fan of belly dance herself and sees the charitable mix of the two passions as a positive for both parties, hoping to turn this annual event into one of the premier belly-dance performances of the year.
