Dark Horse Company Theatre opens its very first production with The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, a story about a small Texas brothel under siege by the town’s local TV crusader.

Based on the story by Larry L. King, this Broadway musical tells the sassy tale of the Chicken Ranch, a brothel so named because, during the Depression, customers paid with poultry—and how Melvin P. Thorpe, a zealous television reporter, is determined to expose the “immorality” of that piddly-squattin’ old-time country place and bring down the business’ livelihood.

Targeting it as the devil’s playhouse, Thorpe stops at nothing to reveal the scandalous affairs at the brothel by going on-air with Nemesis, a watchdog program supposedly committed to exposing social and commercial exploitation. (In reality, of course, Thorpe’s intentions for going after Miss Mona and the women of the Chicken Ranch are to generate publicity and seize a chance for the media spotlight.)

With glitz and cheesy showmanship, Melvin proclaims the “surprising” revelation that “Texas Has a Whorehouse in It.” Following the theatrical production is an afterparty starring the famous and lustrous Voodoo Darlings Burlesque troupe (pictured), starting at 10:30 p.m. It’s an evening of suggestive scripts and sexy performers that’s guaranteed to make Grandma blush. Lawd, have mercy on our souls!

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, followed by an afterparty with Voodoo Darlings @ Egyptian Theatre Company, 328 Main St., Park City, Friday & Saturday, July 17-18, 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, July 19, 6 p.m., 435- 649-9371, ParkCityShows.com
