City Weekly reader Ross Bryner has found good grub down south. He writes: “I first became acquainted with Big Rock Café (4479 North Hwy 89, Marysvale, 435-326-2046) at Big Rock Candy Mountain Resort back in 2005, when my wife and I stayed at the resort for two nights while riding the Paiute ATV Trail. I have since eaten there maybe three more times, including just recently. This is no exaggeration: The food at that restaurant is absolutely amazing and possibly the best-kept dining secret in Utah! This is certainly no plain ‘meat and taters’ café. For instance, I had the Hawaiian shrimp pasta dish—shrimp, tomato, bell pepper, snow peas and pineapple cooked in a coconut sauce over thin pasta noodles. The plate was garnished on the outside with pineapple segments and chopped multi-colored bell pepper dices and a ring of paprika around the plate rim. The portion was large, and I brought home a to-go box and enjoyed the rest for lunch. This wonderful meal with salad, roll and drink set me back just under $20. It was so flavorful and delicious. I have tried several other entrees and have never been disappointed. Apparently, a chef who was trained and worked in San Francisco worked there for a few years and got the gourmet menu going. But before he moved on, he trained the local owners how do the cooking and they are carrying on the same menu. The restaurant and resort setting is gorgeous—at the foot of Big Rock Candy Mountain, among ponderosa pines along U.S. Highway 89 and the Sevier River, just south of Richfield and north of Marysvale.”

Jeff & Debbie Stickley have a West Jordan Chinese restaurant suggestion: “For almost 20 years now—since my wife and I first built a house out there and then came to our senses and moved back to Murray—we have always gone to this Chinese place for the best Chinese food in the valley. It’s always fresh, always crisp, and always served by the same family. And always awesome! You get a combination plate with an entree ranging from anything you can think of in a Chinese restaurant (beef with broccoli, lemon chicken, Kung Pao, shrimp with anything and my favorite, lo mein), and you get the combination plate served with ham-fried rice (and they will substitute white rice if you ask), an egg roll, and preceded by the most awesome egg drop soup you have ever had, all for $5.50. Yeah, you have to pay extra for your soda. It’s called New Dragon Diner (3028 W. 7800 South, West Jordan, 801-565-1238).”
