It doesn’t seem possible that Brian Regan could be entering his third decade of stand-up brilliance. He may pepper his routines now with jokes about being a dad, but he still performs with the same goofball enthusiasm he demonstrated back in the early ’90s when he perfected the art of manic befuddlement.
Today, he may be able to headline in arenas rather than against brick walls in comedy clubs, but he’s still the same ordinary guy trying to reconcile his ordinariness with the world around him. He understands what a “realistic cooking show” would look like: “Join me while I spend the next 20 minutes rummaging around in my drawers looking for the measuring spoons. Later, I’ll spend 45 minutes preparing before I realize I don’t have any eggs.” (Scott Renshaw)
