BTG WINE BAR
  • BTG Wine Bar

By the Glass
A wine bar in downtown Salt Lake City was way overdue, but thanks to Caffe Molise owner Fred Moesinger, we now have one—at least until the end of October, when its seasonal liquor license expires. It’s called BTG (which stands for “by the glass”) Wine Bar and is located at 63 W. 100 South. The place is spacious and airy, with lots of warm wood notes—and, best of all, 50 wines available by the glass, as well as by the bottle or 2-ounce tastes. BTG Wine Bar is open daily from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., and also serves traditional and craft cocktails, beer and menu items from Caffe Molise. There are two elevated booths that are perfect for people-watching, along with tablecloth-dressed tables and a gorgeous curved bar. And a private-label blended wine is in the works for BTG, created by none other than the amazing winemaker Morgan Peterson of Bedrock Wine Company. Moesinger hopes that operating under a seasonal permit will show a demand for a wine bar in Salt Lake City; he’s currently on the lengthy waiting list for a year-round club license. Phone 801-359-2814 for information or visit BTGWineBar.com.

Chile Fest Time
The annual autumn Chile Fest at Z’Tejas (191 S. Rio Grande, The Gateway, 801-456-0450) kicked off Sept. 3 and runs through Sept. 16. Fresh Hatch chiles from New Mexico will be roasting over hot flames outside the restaurant, perfuming The Gateway with their wonderful charred scent. The University of Utah Burn Camp will receive $1 for each Chile Fest menu item purchased. Among the special Chile Fest menu items are adobo steak chile rellenos, Hatch-chile onion rings, tamarind chicken salad with sweet pickled Hatch chiles, and Hatch-chile coconut flan. Visit ZTejas.com for more information.

Deli Dinner
In addition to regular lunch service Tuesday through Saturday, Feldman’s Deli (2005 E. 2700 South, 801-906-0369) now offers dinner service Thursday through Saturday. Regular menu items like Feldman’s unsurpassed hot pastrami sandwich are available at dinnertime, along with nightly specials such as brisket, chicken paprikash, bacon-wrapped meatloaf and other good things. Visit FeldmansDeli.com for more information.
