Black Friday is a great time for holiday deals, even if it means waiting outside a department store in the cold and then trampling over slower and weaker shoppers once the doors open for the bargain bonanza. To balance out the consumerist blood lust, pass a little love to the less fortunate by patronizing a community coat exchange or taking part in a Toys for Tots collection at Tracy Aviary. If you still need gifts after the weekend madness, shop artsy (and local) at the holiday trunk sale at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts.

Community Coat Exchange
Friday, Nov. 26

The community coat exchange is in its sixth year of holding its coat drop off and exchange on Black Friday. Swing by and take a coat if you need one or donate one for someone less fortunate.

Toys-for-Tots Drive at Tracy Aviary
Starts Tuesday, Dec. 1

Tots need toys, especially children whose families are struggling to survive and cannot lavish toys on their children. This year, help make a child’s Christmas a brighter occasion while supporting Tracy Aviary and its mission of awareness of and protection for endangered birds—a good karma twofer! Throughout the month of December, bring one unwrapped toy to the aviary and receive one free admission to the aviary.

The turkey dinner tryptophan will have left your system by then, just in time for the Utah Museum of Fine Arts’ holiday trunk sale.
