Count the Uncounted

To most people, 6,037 is a number they would not understand. Why? Because the press—daily or weekly—doesn’t give it a meaning. That is the number of U.S. troops killed since early 2002. One, two, three at a time and not even a line given to their deaths. Granted, they are not as well known as some star arrested for DUI or some local citizen or local politician caught in a web of corruption. No, they are just young kids half a world away who are dying to keep us alive.

Reality is watching lucky people sometimes struggling to keep up with the Joneses. But would it be worth the press—even a small line or paragraph—to mention their names when they fall?
